A Reticent Realist

I read a review on Fairfield Porter this weekend and I'm instantly enamored!
There was a show exhibiting his work at the Tibor de Nagy gallery which I missed, per usual.

'Anne in a Striped Dress,' 1967
'Katie in an Armchair,' 1954

Fairfield Porter has been unqualifiedly one of my favorite painters since I was old enough to look at a picture. Since I live very near Porter country, I've intended to do a post about him for ages without actually getting to it. Glad you've discovered him. His writings about painting are just terrific, also.

ahhhhh, Porter. Did you see my little post? Alice Neel, David Hockney and Fairfield Porter are, to my mind, the great portraitists of the second half of the 20th century. Love him.
