Every year, when we are surrounded by the beautiful changing foliage and crisp air, I'm reminded of the heartbreaking film, Far From Heaven. I've only seen it once when it first came out, but still so much of it sticks to me. A sign of a well crafted piece, non?
The colors, the sadness, the hopelessness, and reason 873 why Julianne Moore is the best thing to happen to Hollywood. I've been playing Dinah Washington's take on Cole Porter's So in Love on repeat for the past two months which has become my own mental soundtrack to the memory of the film. Need to watch it again!

Oh, DH, how you make me swoon on a Monday. The remembered beauty and sadness of "Far From Heaven".... those colors and the amazing acting of that incredible cast... as if that weren't enough... Porter's "So In Love"? Now I'm seriously misty...one of my favorite renditions is KD Lang's.... goose bumps.
Thank you WE! I think that song has singlehandedly put me in a weird place...and how have I not heard the KD Lang version, I'm downloading as soon as I type this!
Oh, I loved that movie too and you're so right, its visual evocation of autumn absolutely stays with one over time. The colors, the fallen leaves, the stark stylized trees and of course all the costumes with their rustic-chic hues -- I can see it all in my head even now. Only the dialogue is missing -- which is enough of a reason to see it again IMMEDIATELY. Thanks for the reminder. xx
So glad you agree with me, Lisa! And if you need your immediate fix, I know it's on Instant Netflix! I think I'll watch it tonight whilst finishing a friends scarf!
LOVELY movie and one of my favorite songs. I wonder at the people who didn't LOVE this movie. It ALMOST made me want to move out to the suburbs and set up shop!
Dear Daniel, you've just reminded me I've always meant to see this film so I'm off to order the DVD from Amazon.
Mrs Jones and I watched Frida last night. My years of partying have given me the short term memory of a senile old granny so I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. Fee hadn't seen it before and it blew her away, it's such a beautiful film xx
A.Design- Thank you for the stopping by! I'd love to live in that world (for the first half hour).
Christina- Make sure you tell me how you liked it! And can you believe I've never seen 'Frida?' It's one of those that I've always meant to but never have! MUST GET ON IT!
SUCH a good movie.
And Dennis Quaid: MEOW.
