Lust, Caution

Well, much to my pleasure, life is looking very Dr. Zhivago's Ice Dacha.  Wind-blown and snow-swept.  And under 14 inches of snow, Carrick has reminded me: be careful what I lust for.

You have a charming blog, by the way.

Thanks Ms. CW! I really like yours as well! And love the link to the 1920's radio!

As I recall the Dr. Zhivago film set was done with wax -not real snow.

Yes, I think I must have seen a documentary that discussed the creation of the sets. Surely this room is among the most beautiful ever created for a film.

A quick Google searched supplied this entry where beeswax is mentioned in last paragraph of the background section.

The "ice-palace" at Varykino was filmed in Soria as well, a house filled with frozen beeswax.

I still remember when, knee high to a grasshopper (oh, okay, truth: 23 and 6'2") I first saw that scene. It stayed with me for years.

Then years later, still 6'2", but no longer anywhere close to 23, I got to live it: A friend and I had escaped to the tropics, and when we returned, and I went to retrieve my car from the snowy Bangor parking lot, it turned out that my fellow traveller had cracked a window slightly, hadn't rolled it back up, and a fine drifting snow had blown in and coated every surface with a thin sparkly coat. if the van had only had a couple of chandeliers, we could have replayed the whole scene.

Gorgeous post

Scott- I remember that! And I even remember them saying it was filmed in the middle of a hot summer! Around the same time they shot the poppy field scene... Thanks for stopping by! :)

DED- That story made me laugh! I especially love the idea of a van filled with chandeliers!

Ha, remember, I'm an antique dealer. And hanging from the center of the van is the safest way to move a chandelier...many's the time that I've driven down the highway, going half-mad from all the tinkling sounds from the prisms swaying...
